Story

“In the heart of Città Alta, an authentic cuisine to savor.”“

In the charming setting of Città Alta, La Ripa nestles among the historic slopes leading to San Vigilio, crossing the ascent affectionately known as ‘la ripa’ by the residents of Bergamo. This ancient path, now the backdrop for two distinct culinary experiences curated by the Acquaroli family, enchants with its timeless charm: above, Baretto, an everlasting fragment of Bergamo life; below, La Ripa, where elegance meets hospitality.

The entrance of the restaurant is graced by a majestic centuries-old tree, and a staircase invites you to ascend to a raised terrace, providing a picturesque and welcoming corner that leads to the spacious indoor dining area and two cozy lounges. These spaces exude a relaxed and elegant atmosphere.

Generations of passion and culinary expertise.

La Ripa is animated by the commitment of the third generation Acquaroli: Lucia, Annalisa, and Tito. A trio of young enthusiasts well-versed in the world of hospitality, supported by the wise advice and precious experience of their parents, Gabriella and Beppe.

Every detail, from the Parisian flavor to the choice of black boiseries and burgundy velvet upholstery, from the romantic atmosphere to the Art Deco design, speaks of the values and aesthetics of the Acquaroli family. The dining room, in a blend of tradition and modernity, features a dessert counter reminiscent of Baretto and a large, recently restored fireplace that warms the space with its crackling fire.

Harmony between tradition and experimentation.

Our chef, the talented Cristian Semperboni, with a curriculum enriched by starred experiences across Italy, is dedicated to creating a menu that celebrates tradition, offering innovative dishes that respectfully draw from the roots of Bergamo and national cuisine. From ‘Il ritorno del Bertagni’ to ‘Coniglio tonnato,’ the culinary journey embraces palates with offerings that range from local to global, always with a keen focus on products made in Bergamo and seasonality.

A tribute to the family and the territory

Our story is also a tribute: among the shelves, you will find the liquor Antonietta, a bitter liqueur dedicated to Lucia, Annalisa, and Tito’s grandmother, created in 2020 with herbs from the Colli and filled with memories and flavors of Bergamo. It is the symbol of our connection to the territory and the continuity between generations that inspires every creation in our kitchen.

La Ripa: a historical and cultural journey.

Once an ancient connection route and historical walking path, La Ripa, or Via San Vigilio as indicated on maps, has always been a crucial hub in the city’s history. A place that, when observed from any direction, has towered over the ages and now welcomes with open arms those who wish to immerse themselves in its story filled with beauty, culture, and unique flavors.

"The Parisian atmosphere in the play of words."

A play of syllables, just for pure enjoyment. From Ripa comes Pari, as pronounced in French for Paris. A pure coincidence that is well reflected in the bohemian taste of our restaurant.

We invite you to discover La Ripa, to let our hospitality embrace you, and to savor the authenticity and creativity of our cuisine. We look forward to sharing a piece of our history and our heart with you.
